Consultation has concluded

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on Kalyra Road traffic calming. Consultation closed 15 August 2022.

Taking the consultation feedback into account, it is advised that the proposal will not be progressing further.

Background

We ran two engagements on 25 May 2022 and 4 July 2022 to gather feedback for proposed road safety works on Kalyra Road, Belair. These community engagements were undertaken by written survey to directly affected local community members and an online community engagement through Your Say Mitcham.

The proposed design solution and its community engagement were in response to community concerns relating to cyclist safety, speeding traffic, hooning issues, gradient of the road, emergency vehicles access and amenity of the area.

Both community engagements received significant community participation. We received 42 responses for written letter surveys and 87 responses for our online community engagement.

Community feedback received during community consultation period were broadly unsupportive of the road safety treatments proposed. We have received a total of 129 responses of which 35 respondents supported the proposal and 94 respondents opposed the proposal. The respondents who opposed the proposal cited concerns such as public transport access, emergency vehicle access, noise pollution, discomfort and costly option. The respondents who supported the proposal have requested more enforcement, requested further speed decrease and parking enforcement.

Council will request SAPOL for an appropriate enforcement for speeding traffic along Kalyra Road. We encourage members of the public to report any unsocial driver behaviors to SA Police.

We thank you for taking time to provide your feedback on the matter.
