Club flicks the switch on new lights

The Colonel Light Gardens Football Club has celebrated the switching on of new lights at Mortlock Park at Colonel Light Gardens.

The new energy-efficient LED lights are designed to reduce light spill and comply with modern standards. The six new towers replace three 30-year-old towers.

The lights are part of a major project to upgrade Mortlock Park which will include the upgrade of the Gil Langley building, including new changerooms.

Colonel Light Gardens Football Club Facilities Development Manager Peter Callaghan said the new lights would be welcomed by all players.

“We will no longer be training under poor lighting, which is not safe, particularly for junior players,” he said. “It means we can now use the entire ground not just be confined to a small area.”

He was looking forward to the next steps in the project and said it was an exciting time for the club.

“We’re a community club very much about building for the future and getting younger junior players involved,” he said.

The $280,000 project was funded by City of Mitcham and a grant from the $75,000 Football Facilities Fund, a partnership between the SANFL, AFL and State Government.
