Representation Review
Consultation has concluded
All South Australian Councils are required to undertake a review of elector representation (a Representation Review) in accordance with a schedule gazetted by the Minister for Local Government. The purpose of a representation review is to determine whether the City of Mitcham community would benefit from an alteration to its composition or ward structure.
The Representation Review is required to be completed by October 2021, with any changes as a result of this review to take effect at the next Local Government Elections in 2022.
Please note, this review does not consider changes to the external boundaries of the City of Mitcham or its name.
Feedback on First Consultation
With stage one of our representation review now closed (at 5pm on 7 May 2021), 62 persons completed the Have Your Say Survey responding with the following results;
- 71% support a Mayor to a Chairperson 29%
- 77% support wards to no wards 23%
- 65% supporting change to the number of elected members and wards (Options 4 and 5 had the highest responses) with 35% supporting the current structure (13 elected members + mayor with 6 Wards).
We’d like to thank you for your feedback and we will keep this site updated as the next stage will be for the current elected body to consider this feedback to select a structure and ward for further consultation.
The feedback was contained with a report which was presented to Council on the 25 May 2021, the report can be viewed here:
