Why has Council undertaken the Colonel Light Gardens Traffic Assessment?

Administration has received numerous concerns raised by the local community, elected members and members of parliament in relation to vehicle speeding, road safety, high peak traffic flow due to cut-through traffic from the arterial road network within the Colonel Light Gardens (CLG) area

The intersection upgrade of Springbank Road, Goodwood Road and Daws Road will significantly improve the congestion, queueing and delays at the intersection on the broader arterial network, which may reduce the potential for cut-through traffic. There is limited up-to date traffic data available to undertake a detailed assessment to determine the current capacity of the network, traffic volume/speed issues and any underlying road safety issues within the network.

What does this Traffic Assessment hope to achieve? What are the benefits for our community?

The treatments recommended by the Traffic Assessment have the potential to:

    • prevent or reduce the number and severity of accidents
    • create a safer environment for cyclists
    • improve safety for pedestrians
    • maintain the existing road environment (no need for road humps, driveway links or other traffic calming devices)
    • improve the amenity of the neighbourhood with reduced vehicle noise
    • decrease cut-through traffic

Why does the study zone exclude Colonel Light Gardens West?

The Colonel Light Gardens Study Zone was selected based on historical traffic data and resident complaints.

If you are located within the zone West of Goodwood Road and would like to provide feedback we still encourage you to do so.
