FAQs
- Feedback from a portion of the youth community suggested that it was not their preferred use of the reserve
- The location of the basketball court was immediately adjacent to residents, which may result in nuisance noise or behaviour
- A half basketball court takes up a large area of land and given the relatively small area of the reserve, and the desire to keep the open space available for events, a court at this location will be adjacent to some form of thoroughfare for other park users including those heading to Tiwu Kumangka, Coles, Edward St carpark and Waite Street. As it is a place that pedestrians and bikes cross with regularity there is a high potential for conflict (and injuries) with different styles of movement (e.g. playing basketball/ running after balls and pedestrian interactions), especially with mobility impaired persons or prams
- Limitation on green space and shade
Will there be toilets available for use in the reserve?
Yes, as part of the design for Tiwu Kumangka building, there are already toilets accessible on the outside of the building on the northern side of the building facing the reserve to the east of the entrance.
Why was the half-basketball court removed from the concept design?
