Help shape how we manage bushfire risk in your local reserves
We are inviting your feedback on our draft 2025 Bushfire Risk and Prevention Plan for selected council-owned woodland reserves and road verges.
Why we need a fire management plan
The draft plan outlines how we identify and manage bushfire risks to protect lives, homes, cultural sites and the environment on Council-managed reserves and nearby areas. It includes proposed strategies for reducing fuel loads, improving fire access tracks and looks toward future opportunities to enhance biodiversity through planned fire management.
While the draft plan applies to the entirety of the City of Mitcham, the following Council reserves have been identified as requiring specific strategies for bushfire management:
- Randell Park Reserve
- Ashby, O’Deas and Saddle Hill Reserves
- Blackwood Hill Reserve
- Sleeps Hill Quarry Reserve
- Brown Hill Reserve
- Ellis Reserve
What has been done to date?
- Review assessments of bushfire risk to people, property, cultural and environmental values
- Updated mitigation strategies, including clearly defined fire management zones
What is next?
Subject to available funding and approvals:
- Implement fire management strategies, as outlined in the plan
- Opportunities to use ecological fire practices that support biodiversity at a landscape scale
Thank you for sharing your feedback to improve our bushfire planning and prevention.
