Welcome
The City of Mitcham is reviewing its Community Engagement Policy to make sure it is clear, inclusive and reflects current legislation, best practice and community expectations.
We are inviting the community to provide feedback on how Council engages with people in decision-making processes and how those engagement practices can continue to improve.
What is the Community Engagement Policy?
The Community Engagement Policy explains how and when Council engages with the community on plans, projects and decisions that may affect them. It guides Council's approach to engagement to support processes that are open, accessible and meaningful for people across our community.
The policy outlines how engagement is undertaken, including the different levels and methods of engagement that may be used depending on the nature and significance of a matter.
While community engagement helps inform decision-making, it does not determine specific project outcomes or Council’s role (or that of its delegates) as the final decision-maker.
Why are we reviewing the Policy?
Recent changes introduced through the South Australian Community Engagement Charter require all councils to adopt a Community Engagement Policy by 11 September 2026.
We are reviewing our policy to ensure it:
- aligns with updated legislative requirements and contemporary engagement practices
- reflects how our community wants to be involved in decision‑making
- remains clear, practical and easy to understand
- supports transparent and informed decision-making
Your feedback will help identify what is working well and where improvements can be made.
How will your feedback be used?
All feedback received during this consultation will be reviewed and considered and used to refine and improve the draft Community Engagement Policy. The updated policy will then be presented to Council for consideration and adoption.
Share your feedback
We encourage everyone to participate, whether you have previously been involved in Council engagement activities or are providing feedback for the first time.
Your feedback will help shape how Council engages with the community into the future.
