Chancery Lane Footpath Installed

12 March 2026

Through community feedback, we heard that Chancery Lane was a narrow street with no dedicated pedestrian space, creating daily safety challenges for people walking through the area. Residents told us that the lane was heavily used by school children and other pedestrians as a convenient cut‑through between Sturt Avenue, Gorse Avenue and Hawthorndene Primary School.

Without a footpath, pedestrians were frequently forced to walk on the road, often in the middle, especially where the verge was uneven or where parked cars limited access. We heard consistent concerns that this created conflict between vehicles and pedestrians, particularly during school drop‑off and pick‑up times when traffic increased and some drivers used the lane to avoid congestion near the train line.

Residents highlighted that children walking or riding to school were especially vulnerable, and many expressed that a footpath would provide a reliable and safer route for all users.

Based on this feedback, we are pleased to have now completed the installation of the footpath on Chancery Lane to improve safety and accessibility for everyone.
