Help shape the future of a much-loved open space corridor in Hawthorndene and Glenalta

Do you live, play or spend time in Hawthorndene or Glenalta? Whether you are a regular visitor or just discovering these beautiful reserves, we would love to hear your ideas to help shape their future.

Your feedback will guide improvements and ensure these much-loved spaces continue to meet the needs of our community. The Master Plan will cover from Hawthorndene Oval through to Sherwood Reserve in Glenalta.

These reserves are valued for their leafy, green character, with many mature eucalypts and other trees providing shade and natural beauty. Minno Creek flows through the area, alongside the playground and into the northern part of Apex Park, where you will also find the well-used BMX track and popular picnic spaces. The playground is fenced for safety, with busy Watahuna Avenue running along the park’s eastern boundary.

The playgrounds at both Apex Park and Sherwood Reserve are due for upgrades, and this consultation will focus on new designs for these spaces. The designs will draw on the natural features of the reserves to create welcoming, inclusive, and fun places for the community.

Please note: we are not seeking feedback on the Hawthorndene Sports Ground BMX track or the Hawthorndene Oval Community Building, as these projects have previously been consulted on separately. Minor refurbishment works are also scheduled for the Apex Park public toilets as part of our ongoing building maintenance program.

How can you provide your feedback?

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete. Alternative formats are available on request. There will also be opportunities to talk with us in person on site, for more information please view the 'Chat with us' tab to the right.

You can also contribute to the Design Ideas board to provide feedback on general 'look and feel' images along with playground equipment. Alternatively you can place a pin and provide comments on the interactive map further below. Please provide your feedback by 5pm Friday 31 October 2025.

What are the next steps?

After this initial stage, we will use what we hear to develop options for the corridor and publish an Engagement Report to be presented to Council. Any future decisions will also consider environmental, heritage, safety and budget requirements.
