Thank you for your feedback. Consultation has now closed.

The City of Mitcham is committed to improving the safety of road users, pedestrians and children around Coromandel Valley Primary School.

Council has prepared a draft proposal to upgrade Maddern Reserve Carpark to improve road and pedestrian safety. Feedback from the community regarding usage of the space and parking needs will be used to inform the final proposal.

The draft proposal considers the safety of school children, pedestrians and drivers as well as the importance of the natural environment through several greening initiatives:

  • Formalised carpark
    • Road safety and traffic flows will be improved through the installation of a sealed one-way entrance and exit onto Main Road
    • Lined parking bays will improve access and safety for users (noting that available spaces will be limited to ten (10) standard spaces and one (1) accessible carpark to meet Australian parking standards)
  • Greening initiatives
    • Permeable pavers and rain gardens will be installed to improve stormwater quality and reduce sediment entering the nearby Minno Creek
    • Surfaces will be sealed to prevent water ponding which will reduce maintenance and improve the surface friendliness for vehicles and pedestrians

Similar concept designs have been successful at Price Memorial Oval and St Marys Park carparks resulting in reduced stormwater run-off, improved water quality, benefits to nearby trees, and reduced lifting of pavements from tree roots.

The Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) have provided preliminary in principle support of the upgrade and their requirements have been considered as part of the proposed design, including the sealed one-way entrance and exit onto Main Road.

Following community engagement, Council will prepare a final design that incorporates community feedback for DIT approval. Once this process is complete construction is expected to take place during the 2022/23 financial year.

Should you have any queries regarding this project, please contact council’s Project Engineer, Jack Fanning on telephone 8372 8888 or email yoursay@mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au.
