We invited feedback from the community on revitalising reserves in St Marys. Our aim is to enhance and develop key aspects of these reserves, including both the built form and natural environment, to create safe and enjoyable recreational spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

Feedback from the community engagement held in June 2023, provided valuable insights into local residents' desires and concerns. Feedback highlighted the need for improvements in several reserves, with specific attention to enhancing biodiversity, creating accessible recreational spaces, and considering safety features. Three reserves were identified by the community as a priority including Donald Street Reserve, Thurles Street Reserve and St Marys Street Reserve. St Marys Street Reserve saw strong support for a fully fenced dog park, increased vegetation, and the potential connection to Donald Street Reserve. Donald Street Reserve was appreciated for its convenient location, with suggestions for more versatile facilities and a designated play area for different age groups. Thurles Street Reserve feedback emphasised the need for updated play equipment and additional amenities like toilets and BBQ areas. Overall, the community expressed a strong desire for revitalisation that balances recreational opportunities with environmental preservation.

In response to community feedback it is proposed to consult further with the community on playground upgrades to the three reserves, and to inform the community about the proposed facilities upgrades that came out from the previous consultation.

As part of the 2022 State Government election the Member for Elder, Nadia Clancy MP committed $520,000 on behalf of the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport towards the revitalising of reserves in St Marys.

This work goes towards delivering on the Malinauskas Government’s promise to revitalise reserves in St Marys in the lead up to the state election.
