Construction Update November 2025

We are excited to share that the public toilet construction works will soon be underway!

Construction of the new Suffolk Road Reserve toilets will take place from 27 November 2025 through to late February 2026.

What you need to know:

  • The work zone will be safely isolated using temporary fencing during construction
  • The playground and gazebo will remain open and accessible throughout the construction period
Thank you for your patience while we make these improvements for everyone to enjoy.

Update - July 2025

Detailed drawings are now in their final stages which include low upfront carbon material selections. The tender will be submitted in August which places construction on track to commence in November 2025 with estimated completion in February 2026.

Background

Suffolk Road Reserve currently has no public toilet facilities, and Council has received many requests for a toilet in this location as part of other community engagement activities and on an ad-hoc basis. As a result, funding for the construction of new public toilets has been approved as part of the 2024/25 budget.

The new public toilet facility is proposed to be located opposite 22 Suffolk Road, approximately halfway between the BMX track and playground and will consist of a Unisex Accessible cubicle (including a baby change table) and a Unisex Ambulant cubicle.

Given the number and placement of native, significant and/or regulated trees within the locality, a key consideration when identifying suitable locations was minimising the impact to natural habitat and the preservation of trees on the site.

The following factors were taken into consideration when selecting the preferred location of the toilet facility:

  • Public convenience
  • Accessibility
  • New infrastructure requirements
  • CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design)
  • Impact on existing trees
  • Impact on existing infrastructure
  • Maintenance considerations
  • Reserve usage

Council intends to keep the new public toilets open during daylight hours only and have the facilities cleaned daily.

It is estimated that the construction of the new toilet facility should be completed by late 2025.
