Winona Avenue Cyclist Street now open!
The new shared use road for bicycles and cars at Winona Avenue, Clarence Gardens is now open and will form part of the Flinders to City bikeway.
Modelled on cyclist boulevards common across Europe and developed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads in Queensland, the Cyclist Street concept is an Australian first and aims to improve safety for all road users.
The design also promotes sustainability through water sensitive urban design measures, including permeable paving and tree pits that capture and conserve water for street trees, and additional tree planting.
Council will conduct site and traffic reviews and parking assessment to review vehicle volumes, speeds and driver behaviour in coming months.
