Consultation Outcomes and Next Steps - 28 January 2025 Full Council Meeting
We are pleased to share the outcomes of the January 28 2025 Full Council Meeting which centered on improvements at Reade Park Reserve:
- Under a State Government grant, Courts 1, 2 and 3 will be resurfaced, fitted with new lighting and enclosed with replacement fencing. Courts 13 and 14 will also receive new fencing.
- Design work is underway on the Hereford Avenue entrance; we will be seeking your feedback on designs before these proceed. This will also address the question of the use and possible relocation of the Colonel Light Gardens Social Tennis Clubroom (with agreement from all parties), plus further upgrades to the main Colonel Light Gardens Lawn Tennis clubhouse.
- As part of our regular capital renewal program - and subject to Development Approval and heritage advice - we will renew the fence along Flinders Avenue, upgrade lighting at the Bowling Club, and replace park shelters.
We will be consulting again shortly on proposed lighting changes around the Bowls and Croquet Club and the licence hours requested by the CLG Social Tennis Club (for the use of hard courts 1, 2 and 3) to ensure the plans meet your needs.
We have also endorsed new 10-year leases for Colonel Light Gardens Bowling Club, Reade Park Croquet Club, Colonel Light Gardens Social Tennis Club and Reade Park Tennis Club in their current locations.
A further report on community engagement findings - and potential licence terms for the Social Tennis Club - will be tabled at a future meeting.
Background
The City of Mitcham is seeking feedback on upgrades at Reade Park including resurfacing of three tennis courts, renewing hard-court lighting and fencing, upgrading clubroom acoustics, remodeling kitchen facilities, redeveloping the Hereford Place entrance, upgrading the external lighting at the Bowls Club and Croquet Club, reviewing leases and licenses across Reade Park and the potential alteration/removal of some storage assets.
The project is funded by the Government of South Australia on behalf of the Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing, in partnership with the City of Mitcham. These projects go towards delivering on the Malinauskas Government’s promise to resurface three tennis courts, renew hard-court lighting and fencing, upgrade clubroom acoustics, remodel kitchen facilities, and redevelopment of the Hereford Place entrance at Reade Park Colonel Light Gardens by the Member for Elder, Nadia Clancy MP in the lead up to the state election.
